Was born in 1947 in St. Petersburg.
In 1965 he entered Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and graduated from it in 1972 with honors. In 1975 he received his post-graduate degree at MIPT and defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of engineering sciences. He worked as a researcher in the missile industry of the USSR. In 1977-2000 he was a researcher in the Central Research Institute of Radio-Electronic Systems and then became the head of the sector.
Since 2001 Sergey Ivanovich has been the head of the Laboratory of Remote Sensing at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. |
Under S.I. Ivashov's direct leadership there has been developed a holographic subsurface radar "Raskan" for sensing the building structures, as well as a microwave soil moisture meter.
For the creation of a holographic radar "Raskan" S.I. Ivashov was awarded the prize of the Russian Federation Government in the field of science and technology. The microwave soil moisture meter received a diploma and a medal at the World Exhibition of Inventions Brussels Eureka'93.
The laboratory carries out research funded by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Science Foundation, the International Science and Technology Center, the FP-7 (European Union), NATO and others. The studies are carried out in broad international cooperation with scientists from Japan, Italy, the UK and the US.
The main research interests include development of radio sensors detecting mines for use in humanitarian demining; development of radars for inspecting the building structures and composite materials; use of subsurface radars in criminology; remote measurement of human pulse and breath parameters for use in medicine and in the field of security; the creation of methods to measure soil moisture in the radio frequency band.
S.I. Ivashov has published over 250 scientific papers.
S.I. Ivashov is a member of many international conferences in the field of subsurface radiolocation and humanitarian demining. He is also a member of the international conference organizing committees, or is their head:
