BMSTU Museum

   The main exhibition of the museum includes two rooms with a total area of 450 square meters. The first room was opened in 1992. The second one was opened on November 21, 2000, which was devoted to the 170th anniversary of the University’s foundation. The first visitor of the room was President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

   The exposition deals with the history of the development of BMSTU from its being a craft school to its becoming the country's first technical university. The exposition shows the University’s place and role in the history of national higher education, its influence on the development of Russian science and industry. 

   The main collection has more than 10 thousand exhibits; the book collection contains about 3 thousand copies - from the volumes of the XVIII century and lithographic textbooks of the end of XIX century to the first domestic textbooks on heat engineering, automobile construction, cybernetics, rocket science and robotics. Thirty exhibits of the museum are recognized as historical scientific artifacts of the first rank. Among them is Academician N.А. Pilyugin’s diploma work, who was a graduate of Bauman Moscow State Technical School. The work focuses on the aviation instrument - a zhirograph, a device for measuring theaircraft angular velocity, which was used at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) for over 40 years in flight tests and aircraftmaturation.

   The crown jewel of the museum is the genuine things of BMSTU graduates and teachers presented by their descendants. Among those graduates are academicians S.P. Korolev, N.A. Pilyugin, V.P. Barmin, V.N. Chelomey. In the center of the first room there is a spacesuit of BMSTU graduate, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, cosmonaut V.A. Solov'ev, in which he completed 2 flights on the Salyut-7 and Mir stations in 1984–1986. Today Vladimir  Solov'ev is the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Ballistics and Aerodynamics at BMSTU. A collage of dummy spacecraft, from the first artificial satellite of the Earth to the Salyut-6 orbital complex, the Soyuz, allows visitors to visualize the main stages in the development of space technology in the country.

From the height of the Vorobyovy Hills (Sparrow Hills) you will take in the unmissable sights of the whole city. From here, the modern business center Moscow City, the ancient Novodevichy Monastery, sports facilities and, of course, the building of Lomonosov Moscow State University, one of the first universities in Russia, are perfectly visible. On Mosfilmovskaya street you can get closer to the cinema and find out about the classics of Soviet cinema. The tour also includes the visit to Poklonnaya Gora (Worshipful Submission Hill), which is one of the very important places in Moscow, as  many tragic events in the history of our country are connected with it. You can feel the atmosphere of this magnificent place.

Planetarium

   Today in the Big Star Room of the Planetarium you can see the stars on the biggest dome of Europe. The diameter of the dome-screen is 25 meters, and the square is 1000 square meters. The Room is equipped with the latest developments in the field of projection technologies.  The most advanced fiber-optic starry sky projector of the latest generation “Universarium M9” of the legendary company Carl Zeis is installed in the center. It is this projector that shows more than 9000 twinkling stars, conveys the unforgettable picture of the starry sky as accurately as possible, reproduces astronomical phenomena in the interval of 10,000 years! The full-dome digital projection system of the Big Star Room developed by Global Immersion company is the second part of the set of equipment of the modern Planetarium, which will let you experience the unique effect of immersion into space.
